The most important bitters release in 200 years?

Angostura Bitters has been a staple behind the bar for two centuries… showing up in everything from tiki classics to modern rum cocktails. Now, to mark its 200th anniversary, Angostura has released a limited-edition bitters, and it’s far from just a rebranded bottle.

Unlike the top secret recipe of the world famous Angostura aromatic bitters we’re being given a small peak behind the curtain with this limited edition release! We don’t know everything but we do know that this 200th anniversary edition contain Angostura aged rum with Angelica root, Roman wormwood and nutmeg.

Angostura has capped this limited edition at 120,000 bottles worldwide. That might sound like a lot (and not very limited at all…) but when you consider they export to over 160 countries, maintaining around 85% market share in the category? Suddenly I’m very happy to have got my hands on a bottle before they disappear.

This 200th Anniversary release isn’t about nostalgia, it’s about legacy. Angostura has taken everything it’s learned over two centuries and bottled something forward-thinking. Aged rum, bold botanicals, and a story that goes back to 1824.

Tasting notes, straight from the source.

I haven’t opened my bottle just yet so here’s what Angostura have to say about what you can expect.
Appearance: Medium amber with nuances of gold.
Nose: Mint top note of cardamom, orange and earthiness. Background subtle sweet aniseed with cinnamon layer adding a creaminess to the overall layer.
Palate: Sweet aniseed and spicy top note with an astringent mouth feel. Slight bitterness on the palate with a cooling mint finish. Long lasting bitterness with the cardamom engulfing the palate on the finish
