Hey, I’m Conor—but you might know me better as That Rum Drinker! I’m a rum blogger and enthusiast who decided to document my rum journey as my home bar continues to grow and my palate evolves.
Rum may be just a hobby for me, but I take it semi-seriously—as you can probably tell! I aim to hit the sweet spot between knowledgeable and approachable (so don’t ask me about fermentation, esters, or complicated mathematical equations!).
My journey into rum began in 2019 at a bar in Greece with a bottle of Chairman’s Reserve Spiced. For the first time, drinking a spirit was about the flavor and experience rather than just the alcohol. From there, I quickly moved on to Havana 7, Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva, and Zacapa 23—and I knew I’d found something I wanted to explore further.
The next step? Convincing my brother to build me a home bar. Fast forward, and now I have over 100 bottles (and counting), and an increasing number of people seem interested in hearing my opinions!
Over the past few years, my palate has constantly evolved. Rums I used to love don’t hold the same appeal, while those I once overlooked are now right up my alley. I call it my rum journey because that’s exactly what it is—challenging (sometimes wrong) assumptions, stepping outside my comfort zone, and always learning.
But my journey isn’t just about rum anymore. Recently, I’ve been broadening my horizons into whisky—sharing my perspective as a rum drinker stepping into this new world. The similarities, differences, and surprises along the way have made for an exciting experience, and I’m looking forward to documenting that too.
Of course, this journey hasn’t been a solo one. A huge shoutout to my fellow rum (and now whisky) enthusiasts, content creators, and friends who have made it all the more enjoyable.
