Hi, I’m Conor (That Rum Drinker)
My rum journey began in 2019 whilst I was on holiday in Greece when a friend recommended I try sipping a couple of rums neat. I had never really taken the time to taste rum (or indeed any other spirit) properly before, but that moment opened my eyes to how much depth and character it could offer, and it quickly turned into something I wanted to explore further. When I got back home I started sharing the bottles I was trying on Instagram, partly to keep track of them, partly to continue my love of photography and partly because I enjoyed chatting with other rum enthusiasts who were sharing their own journeys. Over time those quick posts naturally grew into something more, and eventually I created this blog so I could share longer thoughts, more detailed reviews and everything I was learning along the way.
Since those early days my home bar has grown to more than 150 bottles, and I have tasted well over 400 rums from different distilleries, styles and countries. What I enjoy most is how my tastes continue to evolve. Some of the rums I loved at the beginning no longer stand out to me in the same way, and others I didn’t appreciate early on have become firm favourites. Rum has a way of challenging what you think you know, which is a big part of why I enjoy it so much.
This blog is simply me sharing that journey with fellow rum fans. Here you will find honest reviews, tasting notes, thoughts on rum culture and the occasional cocktail or mixing experiment when something catches my interest. I try to write in a way that is approachable and straightforward, while still being detailed enough to be useful, because the whole point of this space is to help people discover rums they might enjoy or learn something new along the way.
I always enjoy connecting with brands, distilleries and others within the rum community, so if you are interested in collaborating or sharing something exciting, feel free to reach out. Building connections has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
If you want to see more of what I am trying, you can explore my latest rum reviews or follow me on Instagram, which is where this all began, for updates, tasting notes and a closer look at what is on my shelf.
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you find something here that adds to your own rum journey.
