The launch of the Cantineros Collective

Yesterday, I headed over to Diageo 1HQ for the exciting launch of the Cantineros Collective – a modern tribute to the historic Club de Cantineros.

We were welcomed with frozen daiquiris served in edible cups (surprisingly delicious!) and had time to mingle with an inspiring mix of drinks bloggers, bartenders, and industry icons in a beautifully immersive event space.

The main session kicked off with an introduction to the Cantineros Collective and the wealth of opportunities it offers members – from exploring cocktail history and WSET training to competitions, masterclasses, immersive experiences, networking, rewards, and quarterly “legend” sessions designed to celebrate and learn from the best in the business.

Next up was a captivating brand session diving into the history and origins of Ron Santiago de Cuba – known as The Cradle of Light Rum. Of course, no brand deep-dive would be complete without a tasting, which featured chocolate pairings and a standout pour of the Extra Añejo Gran Reserva 20-Year-Old, served alongside a bespoke chestnut and oaked honey chocolate truffle. An exquisite combination that truly elevated the experience.

We then had the pleasure of hearing from special guest speaker Ian Burrell (@therumambassador), who shared fascinating insights into the history of the daiquiri, the legacy of El Floridita (Cuba’s iconic cocktail bar), and some thought-provoking reflections; all while we sipped on three of the five classic daiquiri variations.

It was a fantastic experience being part of the Cantineros Collective launch, and I’m excited to see what’s in store next.

If you’re a bartender or bar manager, this is definitely something you’ll want to be part of – reach out to Tommy (tommy.cole@diageo.com) for more details.
